Head of Operations – Open
Our client is a leading learning disability and mental health charity in the Northwest. With a clear vision and pathway to significantly increase both the operating size and financial turnover of the business through organic growth opportunities with new bids, tenders and strengthening relationships within local geographical areas.
This position is offered as hybrid working, you are able to work from home, situated within the North West of England and are able to travel to services across the region as required.
The position is offered as remote / home working but requires a strong knowledge of key health and social care decision makers and partnerships within the Northwest. This opportunity requires a Senior Operations Manager who has extensive experience and knowledge of the Health and Social Care sector and can influence key stakeholders, ensure “operational grit” and be accountable for the quality and performance of the business. It is critical that this position will promote and foster a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, quality, and accountability across all areas of the charity. This role will report into the Director of Operations.
You will need to be a “doer”, someone that is constantly able to keep on top of multiple operational tasks and get work over the line. A naturally articulate and empathetic communicator that has worked in pressured environments and can calm and moderate with people.
The initial key projects this role will focus on include:
- Working alongside stakeholders across the organisation and partners to strategically review and improve workforce planning and management. This position will have 2 direct reports, but overall responsibility for approx.. 1500 in workforce.
- Lead on the development and production of the Operations business plan; ensuring alignment with and delivery against the strategic objectives of the organisation and agreed performance standards. Acting as the key point of contact for the organisation for Commissioners and other local stakeholders (e.g., Councillors, MPs, other key stakeholders).
- To deliver annual growth targets.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- To ensure execution of continued service growth programmes which maximise revenues and opportunities for innovation and development of new services, and which support the strategic direction of the organisation.
- To contribute to the development of cost-effective organisational structures and processes within Operations, to deliver services to agreed performance standards.
- Ensure that the robust performance management arrangements are used to regularly and effectively monitor operational delivery and that corrective action is taken when necessary to achieve acceptable outcomes.
- To develop and nurture significant relationships with funders and partners that open opportunities for growth and secures current contracts.
- Delivering in-year and long-term growth through delivery of both strategic and annual business plan.
- Delivering annual growth targets through the identification of new commissions and contracts and the development of new services aligned to the strategic direction of the organisation.
- Working closely with the Business Development Team to identify and deliver winning bids for new contracts and individual commissions.
- Developing and nurturing significant relationships with stakeholders that secure contracts and open-up opportunities for growth and innovation; selling the value of the products and services provided.
- Negotiate and agree both internally and where appropriate externally the financial resources to be allocated for existing and planned services, including the identification of efficiency savings, and ensure that services are managed within the available budgetary framework.
- To ensure that our models of support are always best practice and value for money and to encourage creativity and innovation in the development of new ways of working.
- Lead on recruitment and retention strategies and initiatives.
- Budget planning with Director of Operations and associated finance colleagues.
- Managing and delivering within agreed targets the operational budget/P&L and annual business plan.
- Leading and inspiring all staff to deliver the highest standards of care.
- Provide operational and professional leadership, direction and management which results in the delivery of effective, efficient, quality assured and person centred care.
- Setting objectives for team members that align to strategic plan, annual plan, budget, and performance framework including any personal development objectives as part of individual or organisational development, talent management etc.
- Leading initiatives to drive improved performance, teamwork, and operational excellence within the organisation.
- Delivery to all requirements of the Care Act and/or Mental Health Act and all areas of CQC regulated and non-regulated activity.
Requirements
- Detailed knowledge of the regulatory frameworks with which Health and Social Care Services are governed.
